People management is a constantly evolving field, with new theories and models emerging regularly. However, we often encounter a lack of proficiency in applying basic concepts before moving on to new models. Without a proper understanding of a topic, it is impossible to effectively progress to the next stage.

We need to reflect on the tendency to complicate something that should be simple. A clear example is the difficulty managers face in having constructive conversations during the performance management cycle. Even though this is a fundamental stage, we still observe many mistakes in hiring decisions and in decisions regarding terminations, which are often delayed due to a lack of consistent feedback throughout the employee journey.

To move forward efficiently, it is essential to focus on the basics. Before investing in new approaches, we must ensure that the fundamentals are well established. True mastery in people management lies in doing the simple things consistently, thereby building a solid foundation for any new initiative.

Practical leadership training is essential for achieving this consistency. Leaders who are well trained in everyday management skills are able to apply concepts effectively, creating a more productive and healthy work environment. In addition, it is crucial to have clear metrics to measure progress, enabling organizations to track evolution and identify areas that require continuous improvement.
